The story

Sensai: the art of Japanese skincare by Kanebo

The Saho ritual and Koishimaru silk

Sensai is the luxury skincare line of the Japanese group Kanebo, founded in 1981. The house draws on the Saho ritual, the age-old Japanese code of harmonious gestures, to offer a skincare routine in which every texture, every movement and every gesture is conceived as an art. Sensai's unique signature is its extract of Koishimaru silk, the legendary silk used for the kimonos of Japan's emperors, whose peptides help redensify and smooth the skin.

The Japanese house's iconic skincare

The Sensai pantheon includes Radiant Glow Foundation SPF10, THE LIPSTICK, HIGHLIGHTING CONCEALER, TOTAL FINISH, CLEANSING MILK and TOTAL LIP TREATMENT, all signatures that have established the house among enthusiasts of exceptional skincare.

Five collections to explore Sensai

The house organises its range into five complementary lines. Cellular Performance is the comprehensive anti-ageing ritual. Absolute Silk brings together the premium silk-based treatments. Ultimate embodies absolute excellence. Experts offers high-precision targeted treatments. Finally, Silky Purifying gathers the cleansers for the two-step Japanese ritual. Sensai also offers make-up that extends its skincare universe.

Who is Sensai for, and when should you use it?

Sensai is designed for lovers of Japanese cosmetics who seek airy textures and a soothing daily ritual. The house caters to all skin types and all ages, with ranges tailored to specific needs (anti-ageing, radiance, hydration, purity). If you love Sensai, you will also enjoy exploring Valmont (Swiss cellular skincare), La Mer (the American anti-ageing icon) and Matis Paris (premium French skincare), three other luxury skincare houses at Soleil d'Or.

How do you choose your Sensai skincare?

Choosing the right Sensai treatment for your skin calls for personalised advice: skin type, sensitivities, expectations. Hesitating between Radiant Glow Foundation SPF10 and THE LIPSTICK is perfectly natural. Our boutique at 22 rue de la Clef in Lille (France) welcomes you for a guided diagnosis with our team, trained by the greatest houses. Unable to visit in person? Contact us via the chatbot on our website and we will point you towards the most suitable routine.

Frequently asked questions about Sensai

Who is behind the Sensaï brand?

Sensaï is the prestige brand of Kanebo, one of the oldest Japanese cosmetics groups, founded in 1887. Originally a silk company, Kanebo noticed in the 1930s the exceptional beauty of the hands of the artisans who spun the silk. This observation sparked decades of scientific research, leading to the launch of Sensaï in 1983, specifically for the European prestige market. Today, Sensaï is one of the world's benchmarks in luxury skincare of Japanese origin.

What is Koishimaru silk?

It is Sensaï's signature ingredient: an extremely rare variety of Japanese silk, once reserved exclusively for the Imperial Court of Japan (the imperial monopoly was only lifted in 1994). Around 100 times more expensive than ordinary silk, it contains a unique peptide that stimulates the skin's natural production of hyaluronic acid. It is this property that gives Sensaï skincare its ability to deliver "SILK SKIN" — supple, smooth and radiant.

What are Sensaï's main collections?

Sensaï is built around four major lines. Cellular Performance is the flagship holistic anti-ageing line. Ultimate represents the pinnacle, with Koishimaru Silk Infinite and the Sakura Eternal Complex. Absolute Silk offers the purest silk experience. Silky Purifying focuses on gentle cleansing. The full range is available at Soleil d'Or.

How can I try a Sensaï product before buying it?

The best way to discover a Sensaï product before buying is to come to our Lille shop and meet Apolline and Victorine. They can assess your skin type, needs and sensory preferences, show you the textures and point you towards the right products. You can also choose free Click & Collect: order online, collect in store. For online orders, feel free to contact us beforehand by phone or via the form — we take the time to advise you according to your profile. Please note: for hygiene reasons, opened skincare products cannot be returned.

Where to start with Sensaï?

Apolline and Victorine recommend starting with the signature Saho ritual: a double cleanse followed by a double moisturising step (lotion + cream). For a first routine, the Cellular Performance line remains the best entry point — effective, accessible, a perfect introduction to the brand. For mature or very demanding skin, Ultimate offers the most complete experience. For sensitive skin, Absolute Silk provides the most enveloping textures. Our face care selection brings together our entire niche offering.
