Essence de Patchouli

Essence de Patchouli pays tribute to the patchouli route: this “green leaf” from the East — patchai ellai — travelled westward in the caravans of silk merchants, slipped between fabrics to protect them from moths.

Long confined to that role, the material had to wait for the sixties to become a perfume: the pacifist generation embraced its soothing virtues and made it the olfactory emblem of a new consciousness, from Benares to San Francisco.

The Gold Collection offers a goldsmith's reading of it: a patchouli essence of great purity, rounded by rose and geranium, then ennobled with amber, vanilla, sandalwood and gaiac. A deep woody oriental, tinged with nostalgia.
