Rose de Mai

Rose de Mai is born of a sunrise in Provence, between the Alps and the sea, when thousands of Rosa Centifolia soak up the light and begin to release their scent. It is the hour of the harvest — the one that Jean-Claude Ellena attended as a child alongside his grandmother in Grasse.

A pale rose with a tender complexion and a delicate scent, the Centifolia is by turns light, fresh and alluring; but it is when paired with musk that it reveals its full sensuality. Among more than fifty species, the perfumer chose the Rose de Mai — the most widely grown in Grasse, and the most luminous, the most solar.

For the Les Parfums de Grasse collection, Jean-Claude Ellena answered its provocative call with languorous, voluptuous notes: rose absolute at the top, a touch of immortelle and rose geranium at the heart, musk in the base. A soft, opulent sillage that instantly transports you to the flower fields of the perfume capital.

Jean-Claude Ellena, born in Grasse in 1947, is one of the greatest contemporary perfumers and was Hermès' exclusive in-house nose. His minimalist, luminous, watercolour-like signature can be discovered at Soleil d'Or through Rose de Mai, Mimosa Tanneron and Essence Rare — his creations for Perris Monte Carlo, Houbigant and Laboratorio Olfattivo.
